Energy-and environmentally friendly refrigeration and heat pump technology
The market for transport refrigeration is under strong pressure from both local authorities and the EU with requirements on reducing CO ² emissions. Local European governments have together with the EU, the transport industry on the priority list when it comes to developing new solutions. Today’s technology is becoming obsolete, and little of development has taken place over the last 30-40 years. Limited attention has been given to the energy efficiency of different types of heat pumps and refrigeration units.
Thermo Power’s proprietary patented technology is based on research and development of first a new more energy efficient and environmentally friendly heat pump and refrigeration unit technology and a fan technology. The development of the technology has also received funding through a Seventh Framework Programme, in collaboration with e.g. Chalmers and SP.
Thermo Power’s focus is today primarily directed against the refrigeration unit for the transportation market. The refrigeration units have significant advantages compared to existing systems:
- More energy efficient (possible reduction in diesel fuel by up to 50% or 2.5 l / h)
- Reduced maintenance costs
- Considerably lower weight
- Minor space consuming (enable increased cargo space)
- Environmental friendly refrigerant
- Lower noise level
Prototypes have been developed for testing and verificatio. In addition to this pilot installations are scheduled to be carried out at industrial pilot partners.
In addition to the refrigeration unit for the industrial transport refrigeration market are there two initial categories of products to be commercialized:
Air-air combined heat pump and air conditioning for consumers on the OEM market
Licensing of the company’s fan technology to commercial operators
Thermo Power is initially filed on the industrial market to introduce the refrigeration unit on market in Q4 2012.
